Catch up time!!

Posted by Zoe Fletcher on Sunday, October 25, 2009,
As Sunday afternoons dictate now is the time to catch up on bad tv, eating leftovers and apparently perfect blog updating time!! Well this week has been full to the brim with old friends and new friends popping in and out of my daily life as well as a full uni schedule!! Sunday hailed the arrival of my lovely friend Kellie and after a fruitless wait in a hotel lobby for her 'too tired' uni group we decided to go it alone to the V and A to soak up some historical fashion culture!! We managed t...

2012 Imperitive...and Wicked!!

Posted by Zoe Fletcher on Tuesday, October 13, 2009,
Yesterday I attended an amazing conference at the V&A hosted by BioLabs, it was a great insight into environmental issues from a more scientific and economical perspective, John Thackara hosted a question and answer session after each group of talks which really gave you an insight into what other designers thought of the tough questions and changes that need to take place in order for our planet to begin to repair and sustain us as humans for a long time to come...

I also went to see Wicked i...

Deep Ecology Lecture...

Posted by Zoe Fletcher on Thursday, October 8, 2009,
We had a great lecture out in the woods yesterday with Kate Fletcher, it was lovely to know that just a ten minute walk from Belsize Park Tube Station was a little piece of nature (disrupted only a little by an airplane every 15 minutes!) We paired up and one of us was blindfolded whilst the other showed us where to walk and what to touch...it was amazing how many ordinary things felt completely different to how you believed they would...even the silky textures of a leaf were amazing to touch...

Exploring London ecologically!!

Posted by Zoe Fletcher on Thursday, October 8, 2009,
On a great trip out with a lovely Geordie we headed to the Natural History Museum to soak up dinosaurs and a lot of nature...here are a couple of pictures from the day which actually gave me a helping hand in researching about ecology and the way we interpret nature...

I love the way this display has been curated

We need to remember that everything we do is interlinked with nature

I loved this way of displaying short films

haha what better way to put the message across??

A display rein-acting how...

Reading Reading Reading...

Posted by Zoe Fletcher on Friday, October 2, 2009,
I have just finished reading a great book by Edwin Datschefski called "The Total Beauty of Sustainable Products". It was an easy to read, light introduction to the ethical and environmental issues we face as new designers, and also did a great job at introducing the reader to a wide variety of already established companies and how they were doing their bit sustain as ing our planets natural attributes. it also had some lovely art work and photographs in there and some great quotes from influe...

SHOWstudio

Posted by Zoe Fletcher on Thursday, October 1, 2009,
I went to SHOWstudios amazing exhibition at Somerset House yesterday...the layout and execution was amazing and the way you felt included in the exhibits really impressed me. Through interaction between the viewer and the artist you could create a completely different aesthetic to the viewer before you...they had a huge 20 foot statue of Naomi Campbell made using a body scanner and then cast. This then had a digital colour pad projected onto either side which the viewers in the exhibition cou...

ABOUT ME

Zoe Grace Fletcher Currently undertaking a PhD at Manchester Metropolitan University within the MIRIAD post-graduate department, I am beginning a practice based academic journey into British wool fibres and new technologies within knitwear design. Graduating with Distinction from a Masters in Fashion and the Environment at London College of Fashion, specialising in hand-knitting and the British Wool Industry, I have worked on a number of knitwear collections (personal and external companies), whilst freelancing and researching for a number of exciting projects. My work revolves around the idea of sustainable fashion from a knitted perspective and the different ways to achieve this incorporating the ideas of slow fashion into mainstream society. I love knitting. And wool. And double sided sticky tape.
